The themes that I have elicited about the Knowledge of the Building of the Temple/Spirit are that it is not a static state or singular achievement; or a one-way process.  It’s perhaps cyclical; definitely never-ending.  The Building of the Temple requires resources; or others; a strong self – strong relationships, and strong ability to act in the world. And acting in the world from a Strong Temple does not lead linearly to a ‘Stronger’ Temple, but a.. finer one. There is a portion of the Temple which ever exists and learns, ‘strengthens’ – but the outer Temple can be razed and rebuilt as necessary.

(Here’s a nice video of the construction and destruction of a sand Mandala by the Dalai Lama, from the Werner Herzog documentary “Wheel of Time”. )

Snapshot of the Working:

My own result was of a deep, concentrated isolation, as if in a bubble with no ties to anything – an observer.  When I interact with others or just walking down the street, I flip between seeing myself from afar, and fully immersing in the moment- emotionally sometimes to the point of flushing, even if it’s a mundane interaction.

Surprising to me was an emotional reaction on the topic of ‘the feminine’ as it relates to myself and my relationships – anger.   I have ruminated on the idea of  ‘Social Masks’  – my personal result was a  Knowledge of the Spirit by the revealing of a highly integrated mask.

Since, I’ve been doing a kind of mindfulness exercise to recognize the Mask: primarily to behave counter to how I might reflexively behave in certain circumstances, to not act on initial emotions but to let them run their course and gain full expression.
